GMC . How to Fix a 1988 Lincoln Powertrain Control ModuleYour Lincoln's electrical and computer systems are nearly all run and regulated by the powertrain control module, or PCM. Over time, the PCM unit itself can go bad. If this happens, it will have to be replaced. The PCM in your Lincoln is mounted inside the engine compartment and is not difficult to remove. However, it is important to buy the correct PCM replacement for your Lincoln to ensure that it works properly after replacement. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Socket set Replacement PCM Step by Step : 1 Pop your Lincoln's hood, open it and remove the negative battery cable. 2 Find your Lincoln's PCM and remove the three wire-pin connectors. The connections pull straight off. 3 Use the socket set to remove the retaining bolts holding your PCM in place on the driver's side fender well. 4 Pull the old PCM out and set the new one in place. Tighten down the mounting bolts to mount the new PCM in your Lincoln. 5 Plug the pin connectors into your Lincoln's new PCM and then replace your negative battery cable.
GMC . How to Find the Power Control Module on My CarA powertrain control module is your vehicle's central computer. Depending on the make, model and year of your automobile, this computer may go by another name, like electronic control module or electronic control unit. The computer interacts with a number of sensors throughout the vehicle, and every instance of fault, malfunction or failure is cataloged. When a problem becomes consistent, the computer will turn on your vehicle's check engine light. While the computer's location varies by vehicle, it is relatively easy to find. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Step by Step : 1 Consult your owner's manual for the PCM, ECM or ECU's location. If your manual does not specify its location, consider obtaining a Haynes or Chilton manual for your make and model-year. Such a manual will not only tell you the component's location, but how remove and replace it. 2 Look under the dashboard on the passenger's side of the vehicle. For vehicles like Fords, this is most common location. The computer is in the leg space, and held in place by mounting bolts. Other vehicles, like Subarus, have the computer within a protective compartment under the vehicle's carpet. 3 Look behind the glove box, if the computer is not in the passenger side leg space. This location is common in Chevrolets. You will likely have to remove the glove box to get to it. Glove box removal differs by make and model, but it is fairly simple. Open the glove box and undo the stops on the side or the top. You may have to unscrew hinges and a support strut. Before removing completely, disengage any retaining clips holding the box to the dashboard by pushing the box inward before pulling it out. 4 Pop your automobile's hood and look into the engine compartment. In some vehicles the PCM is located toward the rear of the engine compartment, held on or near the rear fire wall, and fastened down with retaining screws or bolts. Tips & Warnings The PCM, ECM or ECU likely has a simple wiring harness. Electrical wiring is joined together and attached to the component at one end. Depending on where the PCM, ECM or ECU is located, you may risk deploying the air bags by accessing it. Safely disabling air bags usually entails disconnecting the negative cable from your the negative terminal on your car's battery. Follow that by removing the positive cable from the positive terminal. Wait 5 to 10 minutes; any remaining residual power within the vehicle will drain out. For exact instructions, consult a repair manual for your vehicle's make and model. *4. The wheel has either a disc brake or a drum brake. To keep it simple, I'll just look at disc brakes here. (Drum brakes work on the same general principles; see Chapter 10.) A disc brake is composed of a flat steel disc (surprise!) sandwiched between a pair of calipers, as shown in Figure 4-13. These calipers contain one or more little pistons that are forced into the disc by the brake fluid. Part II: What Makes It Go?. Figure 4-13: Atypical disc brake. 5. Brake pads located between the disc and the pistons grab the disc with their rough asbestos surfaces and force the disc to stop turning. This forces the wheel to stop turning. When the wheels stop turning, the car comes to a stop. 6. 255

Four-wheel disc brakes are standard on most new vehicles. Other vehicles have disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear wheels. A few older cars have drum brakes all around. Chapter 10 tells you all about both kinds of brakes and how power brakes and parking brakes work, and Chapter 18 shows you how to check the brake system on your car to see whether it's in good shape and how to do simple brake work. Now that you've got the general picture of how the various systems in your car work together, the rest of this part goes into detail about each system. Then Part III shows you how to keep each automotive system functioning smoothly with simple maintenance and easy repairs. If your car is behaving erratically, check out Chapter 20 for a guide to various symptoms and what they mean. If you encounter something that you can't handle, Chapter 22 tells you how to find a good service facility and become its favorite customer. GMC . What kind of car do haiti drive?
